What a year 2020 was! I am pretty sure none of us thought we would see a pandemic sweep across the whole world… People lost their loved ones, jobs, wages! Multiple lockdowns affected people not only with just these things but also people’s mental health suffered horrifically!
When the first lockdown in March 2020 hit… I never realised how trapped I would feel, how much I would miss such little things as going out for a coffee or out for a meal, but the biggest change was my partner who I was used to being out of the house everyday being at home!
Once we all adjusted – I started to feel grateful for everything in my life, the small, the big, the things I took for granted, family, my partner being at home, friends, and general freedom.
I joined Re-solution and it was possibly the most challenging but rewarding role I have ever entered and settled in to. IT was not a natural passion of mine, in fact it was far from it.
The training I received from the Sales Director was second to none, he worked in a way that I could absorb all the information I was required to but not only that, made me realise just how important the IT industry, cyber-security and I find it completely mesmerising now. Of course, there has been some very silly question from me on the journey but all in all it has been amazing.
For someone who has nothing to do with IT knows that a lot goes on, but never the full extent of the hard work behind the solutions and products or the damage that could be caused without these things.
Re-solution have a fantastic approach to business and their customers. Fully understanding every aspect of each of their customers and how they come first, not the sale, product or solution.
The whole team works from the same hymn sheet so to speak and together to ensure the customer’s requirements are met fully.
I have worked in sales and account management most of my life and whilst most companies will say this is what they do and how they act… I can assure you it is not. Unfortunately.
As cliché as it may sound, customers are your bread and butter – without them – you do not have a business. I share these values and views with a passion.
Our approach is no BS.
We are not going to sit there and agree you need a solution or patch fix something just to gain your custom. We will only over suggest solutions and products that will work fully for your company/project. Of course, we build genuine relationships with our customers because that is how it should be, and we are all human.
A little bit about how I find sales/account management…
Cold calling is not a favourite thing of my role to do… in fact my heart drops a little when I know I must do it… something people who have never been in sales will not realise – it takes grit to cold call with many people swearing at you, hanging up on you, being generally rude and then doing it again and again.
You will not realise that just as busy as you are with your role, this is theirs and they are just doing their job. Sometimes a little kindness does not cost a lot or even just to say, “no thank you, that’s not something I am looking at right now”.
However, the great outweighs the bad! You get someone who does want to speak to you when you cold call them and they are open to discussing their requirements with you, suddenly that heart that sunk a little before calling is jumping around inside and the buzz is unreal.
The hustle, bustle, ups and downs in sales are amazing but you always need to be 2 steps ahead.
It is for the strong willed, strong headed, thick skinned and the “never give up” people.
I would always recommend someone to give it a shot because you never know till you try it. I tried it and it was like a piece of me I did not know existed just burst with happiness inside.
Do not give up and never be scared to ask for help! It is one of the best ways to learn in life.
For every no you get, for every rude comment or cold call – the amazing parts truly outweigh them.
I wanted to finish this blog with the words “Let’s hope 2021 is a better year than 2020!” however; I am going to finish them with these instead…
Do you, be you, be open to learning new things, do not judge a book by its cover and keep going. You have got this!
